I’ve got the blues

The past few months have been extremely busy, both at work and at home. Working late hours, trying to be a decent boyfriend to Marianne, and generally just trying to live a good life. I fear I’m failing miserably at the last two, which is very sad.

The company I’m currently working for is small, which means it depends on having employees who can do many different things. In my case, I’m now the developer/server-admin/process-improver/guy-you-call-when-you-don’t-know-what’s-happening. Plan to fix this: 1. Outsourcing! I’m currently working on killing all internal web- and mail-servers, moving to external hosted services instead. Costs a bit more in the short run, but avoiding all the headaches of crappy dying servers on sundays is worth it no matter how much is costs.

I have a few other long-term plans that are mainly designed to increase our “income vs. hours worked” rate, i.e. stop under-charging clients for jobs that take way too much time and effort, estimate better, and move to subscription-based payment models for some of our services.

Oh well, enough whining. Wednesday evening I’m off to Oslo to meet with old friends on our annual “guttetur”. I have no idea where we’re going from Oslo, Erling and the guys who are arranging this are being very secretive, so my hopes are high. It’s a great group of people, can’t wait to meet up and have a long weekend of fun fun fun!

You could just go back to working for Opera…. ;)

I miss Opera in many ways, and I definitely see the advantage of working for a large company where you don\’t have to know about all the headaches with the finance and all that malarky. All I really want to know is that we\’re making money, and that my paycheck will arrive on time :)

«All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.»\r\n\r\nAnd I think we all remember what happened to Jack … ;-)

Yes we do indeed ;) I hope I will be clever enough to follow your advice, and avoid a complete burnout :)
