Uncle Eirik!

My sister finally had her baby at 03:30 today!!! I had the phone on my pillow next to me, because we knew the baby was likely to arrive some time during the night, so I jumped up when it rang! I don’t think I’ve ever woken up that quickly before…

I can’t wait to see the little one… A baby girl, my niece. She was around 2800 grams when born, at least that was the estimate they had given my sister before they weighed her properly. We didn’t get much time to talk, since there are so many things they have to take care of right after the birth, but I hope everything went well the first night and that I get to talk to my sister later today.

My plan for today is to go out and look for baby-stuff, now that we know it’s a girl I’ll go hunting for anything pink!

A new generation has started, and as a friend of mine wrote in a congratulatory text message this morning: “this is the start of a new generation, you’re no longer in the youngest chain of your family”. Feels wonderful, and I’m going to be a great uncle, the one that takes his niece to amusement parks, gives the cool christmas presents (always hard ones, at least until she’s old enough to think clothes are cool), and always has time to explain all those questions that come up: “uuuuuunncleee, why does the dog have a tail”, “are we there yet???”.

Hm, that tear in the corner of my eye and the lump in my throat must be a sign that I’m starting to realize what happened today… uncle Eirik… how weird and fantastic is that!!?

Congratulations! \r\n\r\nI have a feeling you are going to be a really good uncle! But don\’t you need to make sure your niece has some in-family playmates;-).\r\n\r\nmediumgeek ]:-)

Thank you! :) \r\n\r\nI have to admit that I\’m often thinking about that… I would really like to have a kid some day, it just has to fit in with everything else in my life. I\’m too much of a \”safer\”, I want everything in place first, like an apartment, two steady incomes and so on. But soon, very soon, I hope :)

Congratulations to everyone involved… Being uncle is fun, especially since the kid is someone else\’s responsibility… :-) I have two nephews and two nieces. My oldest nephew is sixteen years old and did his work practice here in Oslo back in November, meaning he was my responsibility for two weeks.\r\n\r\nMy youngest nephew was born in August, and is growing rapidly. Since they live outside Stockholm I don\’t see him very much, so he grows a lot in-between the visits…
