What would you bring to a deserted island?

This is a question that I’ve been asked once in an interview, and I guess it’s used because it tells something about your personality…

This is a question that I’ve been asked once in an interview, and I guess it’s used because it tells something about your personality…

It’s assumed that you can’t bring a person, so “my girlfriend/boyfriend” is not a valid answer.

On my way to work today, during rush hour on E18, I was thinking about how important music is to me. During a normal day at work, I listen to music most of the time when I’m not in a meeting or am doing something else that requires listening to what people have to say. I have often been asked what kind of music I listen to, and what my taste in music is. My answer is always: I don’t think I have a particular kind of music that I prefer – I listen to pretty much anything, as long as it makes me play air-drums or gives me chills or just feels nice to listen to. The best proof of how varied my taste in music is, is an excerpt of my current playlist on my computer at work:

  1. Megan McCauley – Wonder
  2. Foo Fighters – Everlong (KROQ Acoustic)
  3. Ennio Morricone – Gabriel’s Oboe
  4. Dave Matthews Band – Satelite
  5. DjKFX – No Hope
  6. Fiona Apple – Fast as you can
  7. Jimmy Buffet – Lime in a coconut
  8. The three tenors – Nessun Dorma (from Turandot)
  9. Alanis Morisette – Uninvited
  10. Sting – Fields of gold
  11. Muse – Apocalypse Please
  12. Joni Mitchell – A case of you
  13. Sarah McLachlan – Possession
  14. Seether feat. Amy Lee – Broken
  15. Evanescence – Farther away
  16. Radiohead – Street spirit
  17. Switchfoot – Amy’s song
  18. Suzanne Vega – Luka
  19. Bob Marley – No woman no cry
  20. Counting Crows – Anna begins
  21. Fatihless – We come 1

Hmm, there might be a pattern there after all, but it’s not intentional.

So, back to the question: What would you bring to a deserted island? My iPod Mini stuffed with music and a magical never-ending battery.

How about you?

I\’d definitely bring lots of music (probably a mp3-player like you) with batteries, couple of good books and a fishing rod :)

Well, my first thought was… how in the world are you gonna recharge the batteries!?! Then I started thinking some more and got a bit carried away and wrote an whole blog entry about all of this (and some other stuff:-))\r\n\r\nhttp://www.mediumgeek.com/node/view/146

I was careful to write \”…and a magical never-ending battery\”, since I\’m sure Apple will develop these quite soon :)

Hmmm completely managed to overlook the last few words of your entry *embarrassed smile* Yes a magical never-ending battery definitely solves that problem:-). \r\n\r\nMaybe it is time for me to start wearing my glasses more often:-).\r\n

Hehe, well I understand that you don\’t want to wear them more often considering the amount of kindergarden-people we have at work ;)

    You could bring a solar-powered battery charger…. ;)

  7. 7 Eirik Posted March 8th, 2005 - 12:11

    Noooooo, a magical never-ending battery! …and maybe a life-time supply of Twizzlers ;)

Since someone mentioned magic items, I think I would bring a genie in a bottle :p

And why am I still trying to do mouse gestures in Internet Explorer? Hmm time to go home from UNI I guess….

Hehe, I used to have the same problem in all applications, but I\’m now using the keyboard shortcuts for making new pages and such, and I use flip back and forward.

I hope mouse-gestures will be included in IE 7 when it comes… Oh, and Microsoft should look into using tabs in IE so CTRL+T would be a valid shortcut there as well.

I see no reason to use IE no matter what they do in future versions ;)
