IKEA – prostitution?

Is IKEA “promoting” prostitution with their latest commercials?

Today I read in VG: Complaining about IKEA-butts (loosly translated from the Norwegian article). The complaint is coming from two Norwegian women’s organizations, who seem to think that this picture ”can be associated with prostitution”, and should be removed.

Now I’ve been to the dodgy areas of Oslo (there’s a great Indian restaurant there, for those of you getting funny images in your heads), and seen prostitutes on the streetcorners, but I’ve never seen one standing buck naked in the middle of a wheat field with her back to a car… Irrelevant? Maybe…

What was my point again? I’ve seen plenty of commercials, some good, many bad. This latest commercial from IKEA is at best speculative and not a really good one for selling sofas, but it didn’t give me any associations to prostitution either. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I think these women’s organizations should pick their fights a bit more carefully. In this case I actually feel that they’re being narrow-minded and are actively looking for something wrong with the picture… *getting ready to duck, expecting to get food thrown at me during lunch today*
