Something to think about…?
Watching this video got me thinking, and I realized that though I wish I could help people in need, I have more than enough taking care of myself. Sad, but true… As much as I agree with the points made in the video, I also enjoy watching a good movie, knowing that the cost of each of the explotions or computer generated scenes could have paid for the education of hundreds of poor Ethiopians… Does that make me a hypocrit?
I guess we just live our lives in a bubble here in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, not giving much thought to people suffering elsewhere. The question is: if we started thinking more, would we do something about? I honestly don’t think so… TV campaigns, and campaigns like the one Sarah McLachlan is doing with her video only work for a short amount of time, but as soon as we have cleared our conscience by paying a lousy couple of hundred kroner, we go back to our old way of thinking (or not thinking) again..
This brings me to another point: does the money we pay to the annual TV campaign ever make it to their destination? Even if most of it does, lots of it could get “lost” in administrative fees and salaries, or maybe even spent by the goverment of the country that receives the money on a new presidential palace…
A bit cynical, I know, but I honestly think there must be some better way to help people in need. Sending cash may unburden our collective conscience, but does it really help?

Gerdur commented in her blog entry that \”We should all do what we can!\”. I completely agree, what I\’m sceptical about is the people who take our money and are supposed to give them to the people who need them..\r\n\r\nWell, I only wrote this comment to make sure my new commenting system works, and hopefully someone will use it
