Road trip and beach trip..
Yesterday (monday) we rented a car and went for a road trip around the northeastern parts of Mallorca. The trip went to Formentor first, which is the cape at the far northeast of the island. The view was great, and we took lots of pictures.
We then went to Inca, which is an inland city famous for it’s leather-shops and it’s factory outlets. Marianne was to say the least excited to see that they had a Camper outlet sale, so we made a pit stop there and bought some shoes.
The rest of the day we drove around the island, the weather was incredibly warm (in Inca it must have been above 35 degrees centigrade), so it was perfect driving around with the AC on full!
A few words about the Mallorcan way of traffic planning: it sucks! If you’re trying to get to i.e. Port d’Alcudia, and get to a roundabout-thingy, you’d expect to see some signs far ahead so you know where to get off..? But nooo, they place their signs IN THE MIDDLE of the roundabout-thingys, so we had a couple of fortunate exits where we ended up in the right direction without really knowing how we hit the right one..
We’re staying in Cala Bona, which is next to Cala Millor. These two towns have grown into eachother, so if you follow the beach from Cala Bona you end up in Cala Millor without knowing when you hit the border between them. What they have in common, is that the restaurants are mostly “un-Spanish”. I have seen several restaurants that have signs saying: “Terri and Keith welcome you to Snoddy’s” or something like that, and it’s easier to get a proper English meal than it is to find some good tapas restaurants. Yesterday we ended up eating Chicken Curry at Snoddy’s, which was good enough. We also watched England-Croatia, whohoo!
That was all for now I guess, tomorrow we haven’t got any plans, other than doing what holidays should be all about – relaxing!
